Sports information in Bidhannagar Municipality:

Once the Bidhannagar Municipality was formed in 1995, the municipality took initiatives for scientific organization of sports. Keepings this objective in mind, in 1999, Bidhannagar Sports academy was formed. The play ground of Bidhannagar Sports Academy located in the central park has been given the form of a full fledged football ground. It already occupies an important place among the football grounds located in and in the surroundings of Kolkata. Except football training center, this sports complex will soon have its own training centers for badminton, volley ball, kabadi, basket ball, karate, cricket etc. A pavilion is being constructed for indoor games, like carom, chess etc. A modern gymnasium will be here which will be open to general public too along with the trainees of the sports academy. Rooms for changing the dress, toilet etc. will also be there.

Football is a very popular game in West Bengal. Quite a few age group based training camps has been conducted here. A bunch of promising and rising footballers have been trained here. We firmly believe that one day we will be able to bring up footballers who will represent the state and the country. We have taken initiative to organize invitational football tournaments for the trainees of sports academy. Already the Sports Academy has cut a mark in different age group based football tournaments.

Many of the boys who have played for the sports academy have come up from very poor families. Their hardwork and our willingness made the success possible.

Recently ETV Bangla organized a football tournament among 290 schools. The conditions for this competition was that 15 of the participants will get an opportunity to watch football matches directly in Seoul during the world cup football. Sri Siksha Niketan of Chandannagar became the champions in this tournament. Seven trainees of our sports academy played for them and visited Seoul and watched the world cup. They are Keshto Das, Ram Sarkar, Sujoy Mallik, Biswajit Biswas, Shuvojit Banerjee, Shibu Mondal and Gobinda Roy. We have organized a facilitation for these boys. We could inspire them for playing better football in the future.
