Detailed information of literacy information in Bidhannagar Municipality:

On 8th. September,1991 the literacy campaign started at Bidhannagar.Two surveys were conducted for the purpose and the summary of which resulted the following:

Total No. of illiterates at Bidhannagar between the age group of 9 to 50 were 7644.

Area wise distribution:

Duttabad –> 1270.

Sukantanagar -> 2730.

Sector-I –> 900.

Sector-II –> 1522.

Sector-III –> 1222

Age group wise distribution:

Age Group 9 to 14 :net illitarates -> 1686.

Age Group 15 to 50 net illitarates -> 5958

To implement this campaign Bidhannagar Municipality divided the whole of Bidhannagar into five main segments. These segments are:

1) Duttabad.

2) Sukantanagar.

3) Sector-I.

4) Sector-II.

5) Sector-III.

TLC or (Total Literacy Campaign) got effective in the year 1992 with as many as 340 literacy centers. After this, the PLC (Post Literacy Campaign) was taken up and now the CEC (Continuing Education Center) - phase of the campaign is on. For this 10 CEC's and 2 NCEC's have been opened.
